Passion Speed is a one man operation in Machida, Tokyo, run by Ueno San.

A soft spoken individual but extremely friendly, knowledgeable and talkative, Ueno san quietly helps to maintain and restore classic machinery from Japan as well as European cars.



Ueno san started his career as a mechanic specializing in Hakosuka GTRs in his 20s before eventually starting Passion Speed in his 30s. 

Jobs that other mechanics would not take on, he would, simply to learn and become a better mechanic. He owned and drove an S30 Fairlady Z as well as an S130 Fairlady Z (pictured below). 

He eventually found the Lotus Europa platform and became enamored with their engineering and performance potential. He purchased a cheap, non running Europa and using what he learned from his training, was able to rebuild the car. This car eventually became his demo car for Passion Speed.

In early 2025, Ueno san placed an order for a 22pc floor panel set for the red Z you see in the main photo. 

The floor was very rotten and in need of replacement as well as the floor supports and side steps. 

Due to having other, more pressing, work and being a perfectionist, the restoration is progressing slowly but after seeing his work on other cars he has restored, we are confident this Z will be immaculate once finished!

Once again, it is great seeing green parts being put to good use to preserve Fairlady Zs. Long live the Z!!!
